OSSI On Board Computer Study

The heart of the satellite needs to withstand harsh space environment: high radiation & high thermal fluctuation(Normally, -30 ~ 50 deg. Celsius for 1U Cubesat in LEO orbit)

Manufacturer Model Space Heritage Advantages Disadvantages References
Microchips 16F877A University of Tokyo Cubesats, and many others Successfully working in many Cubesat Missions
Microchips PIC18LF6720 Cal Poly Cubesats working fine too large
Microchips PIC18LF4680 Delfi-C3 working more than 3 years too large
Texas Instruments MSP430F169 Delfi-C3 working perfect
Texas Instruments MSP430F1611, SwissCube working more than 2 years
Texas Instruments MSP430F1612
NXP LPC2292 BEESAT Working more than 2 years

AT91M55800A was used in Swisscube CMDS (verification needed)

Real Time Clock

If you want to know the time, use Real Time Clock on your satellite!

For more reliable memory in space, people are thinking of using F-RAM (It also does have space heritage)

Flash ROM

  • Microchips 24LC256, successfully flown with University of Tokyo's Cubesat (one of the most successful mission)

Temp Sensor

TMP100/TMP101 (with alarm, less address) from Texas instruments

Buffer for IOs
